One of the most watched videos of all time, ‘The Evolution of Dance’ was definitely our first inspiration for creating this dance.
We then went on to watch various wedding dances that similarily were inspired by ‘The Evolution of Dance’. The one thing we noticed is that often the bride and groom weren’t actually dancing together – they were always dancing separately doing traditional steps of the various eras or they were dancing with their groomsmen and bridesmaids. We also noticed that several newlyweds just did the carbon copy of the ‘Evolution of dance’ or were professional dancers.
We must say though, some were still brilliant and very funny. As our guests were of varying ages and from so many different countries, we wanted to choose music and dance styles that at some point throughout the routine, each guest could relate to.
Having decided on the music selection and the fact that we wanted to have a routine where we danced together, we set off to find a dance instructor. We contacted several dance teachers and dance schools in London. After getting a great recommendation about Liz Bayley from Dance Works and exchanging some emails with her, we felt we’d found the perfect instructor. Luckily for us, she was not only lovely and talented, but she really understood what we were after, rather than just trying to push us to do her vision of the dance.
We both remember one of her first comments was that this was an epic routine – almost 7 minutes and 21 songs covering 9 decades was going to be a bit of a challenge for unprofessional dancers. Fortunately she worked with our abilities (and inabilities!) and got us a routine that looked incredible but was possible to perform. Liz utilised her knowledge of various eras of dancing from her professional background and watched the music videos of some of the songs to ensure we hit the mark with the correct style for each music era.
We loved what she created and can’t thank her enough.

L’une des vidéos les plus regardées sur youtube, ‘The Evolution of Dance’ a été notre principale source d’inspiration pour créer notre danse.
Nous avons aussi visionné plusieurs danses de mariage s’inspirant de la chorégraphie de Judson Laipply. Nous avons constaté que souvent le marié et la mariée ne dansaient pas ensemble, mais l’un après l’autre ou avec leurs garçons et demoiselles d’honneur. Nous avons également remarqué que certains jeunes mariés se contentaient de reproduire exactement les moments clés de ‘The Evolution of Dance’, et aussi que certains couples étaient des danseurs professionnels…
Cependant, nous devons reconnaitre que certains couples sont brillants et très marrants. Nos invités provenant d’horizons et d’âges différents, nous souhaitions choisir des styles de danse et de musique pour notre chorégraphie qui plairaient à tous.
Ayant identifié notre sélection de musique et souhaitant créer une chorégraphie où nous danserions ensemble, nous nous sommes mis en quête d’un prof de danse. Nous avons contacté plusieurs professeurs indépendants ainsi que de nombreuses écoles de danse londoniennes. Après avoir reçu d’excellentes recommandations sur Liz Bayley de la part de l’école de danse ’Dance Works’, et après avoir échangé un certain nombre d’emails avec Liz, nous furent ravis d’avoir trouvé le parfait prof. Nous étions très chanceux, Liz était très sympa et extrêmement talentueuse, et elle a tout de suite compris nos attentes plutôt que de nous imposer sa vision artistique.
Nous nous souvenons tous les deux d’un des tout premiers commentaires de Liz à propos de notre chorégraphie “épique” – près de 7 minutes et 21 chansons couvrant neuf décades allaient constituer un vrai défi pour des danseurs (très) amateurs. Heureusement Liz a très bien identifié et exploité nos possibilités, elle a conçu pour nous, la chorégraphie qui nous correspondait le mieux, à la fois passionnante à regarder et réalisable. Grâce à sa passion et sa vaste expérience du monde de la danse, il n’a fallu à Liz visionner que quelques clips sur youtube pour créer une chorégraphie fun, avec des éléments reconnaissables, et des transitions parfaites.
Nous adorons ce qu’elle a créé pour nous, et ne pourrons jamais assez la remercier.
